about

Paperback is about the negative effects of education - particularly public - on the youth in today’s society. The first three verses are written from the perspective of rather skeptical students, saying “We got the clout from people who got even more,” referring to the people who brought us companies like Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and Google. The last verse is written from someone who not only understands all of it but is actively working to do something about it.

There is a video of me sitting down at sunrise going in-depth about every song on this EP. Here is a link to the video for this one!

lyrics

[INTRO - Seth Godin]
We process you for a whole year. If you are defective,
we hold you back and process you again.
We sit you in straight rows just like they organize in the factory.
We build a system all about interchangeable people
because factories are based on interchangeable parts.
This piece is no good? Put another piece in there.
This piece is no good? Put another piece in there.

[VERSE 1]
Do you see not what you are doing to me?
Do you need not to explain continuing?
We got the clout from people who got even more.
We got the clout and we don’t like to keep score.

[CHORUS]
Taking my notes everyday for now,
laying groundwork everyday for now,
paid educate over paperback.
“Wanna escape, go the danger routes?”
Taking my notes everyday for now,
laying groundwork everyday for now,
paid educate over paperback

[VERSE 2]
My whole childhood I was raised in weather
where you couldn’t make it rain with no umbrella.
So I don’t fly till I got great propellers.
And I hold those skies in my life forever.

[CHORUS]
Taking my notes everyday for now,
laying groundwork everyday for now,
paid educate over paperback.
“Wanna escape, go the danger routes?”
Taking my notes everyday for now,
laying groundwork everyday for now,
paid educate over paperback

[INTERLUDE]

[VERSE 3]
Do you see not what you are doing to me?
Do you need not to explain continuing?
We got the clout from people who got even more.
We got the clout from one of them we keep in store.

[CHORUS]
Taking my notes everyday for now,
laying groundwork everyday for now,
paid educate over paperback.
Wanna escape go the danger routes
Taking my notes everyday for now,
laying groundwork everyday for now,
paid educate over paperback

[INTERLUDE - Mark Cuban]
It’s like the newspaper industry.
More printing presses, more big buildings - right?
Makes us look grander. We have -
makes us look grander. We have
brains that we’re putting them out there.
There’s a point of diminishing returns in terms of

[VERSE 4]
Wait:
The cost of living going up
the cost of life is going down
until the life takes itself
up to a higher plane beyond death,
beyond tragedy war, grief,
dismay, plague, doubt. Higher philosophy,
higher IQ, higher rates of employment -
this is the future I wanna construe,
wanna contribute, distribute, then exploit
but so few understand so I
gotta really get into they heads.
I really gotta get a feel, do research,
you may know more than me but
doing is more than only research.
Boy I been hearing so much complaining and
complacency anti-hate is hate in amnesty.
And I be stacking liquid and equity,
dividend everything, many in debt with me,
midnight I go to sleep 5 am
wake up and do the same thing over again
and people talking to me but I ain’t listen
busy taking hella disciplined action to execute,
to get you egg as skewed as chicken
coop full of useless and useful food.
Every thing eaten that’s good for you was alive
like you for a time in the scheme or
pursuit of embracing what you cannot escape
come up with either excuses or solutions
mine stemming from music - the proud
mover of crowds and cultures in tune with
hella diffusion of y’all dense energy for the movements.
